My chief engineer came up with the name for our website, Chequamegon Bay Boats – admittedly, a bit challenging to spell! However, I am and always will be Captain Bob, the last great Pirate of Lake Superior. I've spent a significant part of my life on Madeline Island. It's quite possible you've caught a late-night water taxi with me from the island; if not, the night is still young!

Sailing
I was born into the world of sailing. As a baby, I slept in the V-berth of The Alibi, my family's sailboat. The Egress, a Bristol 29.9, was practically mine for the taking when I was around 14, and I didn't hesitate to claim it.
My sailing exploits include racing Hobie Cats on Bald Eagle Lake in the Twin Cities, attending a racing seminar with the multihull legend Rick Wright, and winning my first sailboat race as crew on Ragdoll, a J24, under Jerry Dun's captaincy. We beat out all the 50-foot yachts in that race. Interestingly, while I won the only race I entered with the Egress, I managed to come in last place in every catamaran race I joined.
In 2019, I embarked on a significant journey, sailing from Florida to Wisconsin aboard Dragon's Lair, a Catalina 470.
If you truly capture the wind, you'll find it hard to ever let go.
Last Great Pirate of Lake Superior
I call myself a Pirate, but more in the Disney sense than real piracy. I often joke that I'm a reverse Pirate: I give you a boat, hope you bring it back, and pray you have fun! I started this new rental company because I have a new son, and I want to build and leave something for him. But for everyone else, it's about sharing fun.
Our boat rentals and this whole idea are centered around having fun and giving access to all sorts of water-based equipment I can acquire, like a treasure fit for a Pirate! And there I go, repeating "fun" as if it were a talking point given to me by my handlers!
