Washburn is on the shore of Chequamegon Bay. Centrally located in the South Shore Region of Lake Superior. Chequamegon Bay if it were a lake of its own is a large body of water. Shallow in many places, especially into the Sloughs and along Long island, the waters of Chequamegon support warmer fish species and provide for better swimming opportunities in her relatively protected waters. Long Island separates Chequamegon Bay from the rest of Lake Superior. One of The Apostle Islands and part of The National Lake Shore Long Island is miles and miles of one of the worlds more beautiful sand beaches. Definitely the closest and most popular island destination of The Apostle Islands.
North of Chequamegon Bay is the larger Lake Superior. Madeline Island is the largest and the only one with private development (minus a few life lease holders in the park). Madeline Island has several waterfront establishments with docks and is a world class boating destination. The Apostle Islands beyond are National Lake Shore and National Wilderness Area. The word unspoiled may be unfair a better term is a rewilded natural area. The park service has several docks at light houses and places to explore and stop at but do be ware the distances to the islands is often further than people realize. Only those with some offshore boating experience and knowledge of how VHF radios work should go north of Madeline Island.
The Boat Store is anything related to boating, floating, or local fun! I have the privilege of buying and testing any fun looking toy by renting it or selling it at our store! Currently my display is just a place for my giant collection of Rubber Ducks, but more fun items will be coming soon!
