Bear Island is a large island with some cool features. The south spit has 2 cabins hiding in the woods that were privately held until the park service evicted the family when the person whos name it was in passed away. I dont really know that story other than I knew those cabins were pretty full the fall before the parks service had them cleared out and that was the rumor. I found out the Cabin on the North East side hiding behind the sand beach was built by the logging company in exchange for the rights to log and was likely never used by the owner. The shorelines of Bear include everyt type of shoreline you can find here, Sand, Rocks, Clay Banks, Sea Caves and Cliffs. The North East Beach is very exposed to east winds, but nicely lee in a west wind and a favorite beach amongst people in The Apostle Islands
