The very south of Madeline Island is Grants Point. A sandbar extends fairly far out and is marked with a red bouy.
Big Bay dominates the middle of Madeline Island’s south shore—a sweeping, scenic bay true to its name. On the eastern point, dramatic rock formations rise at Big Bay Point, known to many as Eagle’s Nest and home to Big Bay State Park. Stretching deep into the bay is one of the longest sand beaches in the Apostle Islands—soft, golden, and perfect for a day of swimming, sunbathing, or just taking it all in.
The Northeast Corner of Madeline Island is part of the sacred fishing grounds of the Ojibwe. The shoreline is scattered with rocks and boulders, so we recommend keeping a safe distance offshore. On the northern end of the island, there’s sea caves and cliffs that are among the finer features of the Apostle Islands.
