Stockton Island
Stockton Island features the best docks in the Apostle Islands—it's the only true harbor offering full protection from winds in any direction. A large ranger station welcomes visitors, and the island offers numerous campsites nestled in the forest. Just a short walk from the dock is the famous Singing Sands Beach, where the quartz-rich sand makes a mysterious sound beneath your feet.
There is also a dock in Quarry Bay, but despite multiple docking options, Stockton Island remains a popular destination—and dock space is not guaranteed. It's strictly first-come, first-served, with a significant portion of the dock reserved for the Park Service and the Apostle Islands Cruise Service.
Along the northeast shore of Stockton Island, sandstone cliffs rise sharply from the water, sheltering a series of small sea caves shaped by centuries of wind, waves, and ice. While more subtle than the famous formations on Devil’s Island, these caves offer a quieter, equally stunning glimpse into the island’s rugged beauty. Towering cliffs and dense boreal forest make this stretch of shoreline one of the most scenic and wild-feeling areas in the Apostle Islands.
Quarry Bay is also on the South Side of Stockton to the west of Presque Isle. This dock is on a nice beach with the trail system, it is a long walk to the Stockton Quarry.
